Analysis of the functions of polyurethane catalysts in different fields
Depending on the production and use of polyurethane catalyst products, we usually choose to use three functions of catalysts: promoting chain growth, promoting the reaction rate of certain specific chemical reactions in the reaction system, and regulating the balance of various complex reactions.
I would like to introduce the application of polyurethane catalysts in the foam industry.
The polyurethane foam industry has high requirements for polyurethane catalysts. To turn the viscous polyol and isocyanate into solid porous material by mixing and stirring, catalysts are indispensable. Both foaming and gel effects are required, and some products also require delayed and trimerization effects. Therefore, more often than not, a mixture of catalysts is used in the preparation of polyurethane foam. Tertiary amine catalysts, metal alkyl compounds, and organic amine salt catalysts are widely used in the PU foam industry.
The second is the polyurethane coating and adhesive industry , the demand for catalysts in the coating and adhesive industry is mainly in two aspects.
1, synthesis of prepolymer.
2, product drying. Metal alkyl compounds are widely used in the coatings and adhesives industry because of their requirement for gelation.
Finally, the polyurethane elastomer industry: most elastomers have almost demanding requirements for moisture in the system, because the introduction of water can cause the generation of bubbles in the elastomer system, which in turn affects the quality of the product. In the elastomer field, polyurethane synthetic leather resin is an important branch of the industry’s requirements for bubbles in the system, which are not harsh, as evidenced by the fact that almost all resin plants are using recycled DMF with high moisture content. In the production of wet feeds, exposure to water is inevitable. The selection of polyurethane catalysts for this industry is similar to that of the coatings and adhesives industries, which face the same environmental issues.
