Various uses of polycarbonate_Industrial additives

To understand the purpose of PC, we first need to know what PC is? Its Chinese name is polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a type of plastic. Many daily items around us are made of polycarbonate, such as buckets, baby bottles, helmets, sunglasses, etc.

Today, let’s take a look at what other surprising uses polycarbonate has?

(1) Construction industry panels

PC sheets have excellent dimensional stability, impact resistance, thermal insulation, transparency, and aging resistance. They have been successfully used in the construction of many international large-scale sports venues. The built stand covers and exterior walls have high transparency. , ensuring ample daylight exposure and minimizing supporting structures, thus making it light and transparent.

For example, domestic Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium, Shenyang Olympic Center Gymnasium, Shanghai Qingpu District Gymnasium, etc. all use PC sheets.

(2) Automobile parts

Due to its excellent heat resistance, impact resistance, rigidity and good processing fluidity, PC is mainly used in automobiles for exterior and interior parts, components around dashboards, anti-freeze panels, door handles, and hoods. Automotive parts such as flow plates, brackets, steering column sheaths, decorative panels, air-conditioning system accessories, lamp parts, etc.

(3) Pure PC trolley case

PC trolley case, as the name suggests, is a trolley case made of PC material. The main features of PC material are that it is light and the surface is relatively flexible and hard. Although it feels soft and does not feel strong, it is actually very flexible. An average adult can stand on it without any problem, and it is easy to clean.

The above suitcases are made of high-quality pure PC material, which is the material used to make bulletproof glass. It has strong impact resistance and can effectively resist external forces during travel.

(4) Medical devices

Mainly used in the manufacture of artificial hemodialysis equipment, blood collectors, high-pressure syringes, surgical masks and other medical equipment that need to be operated under transparent and intuitive conditions and require repeated disinfection.

(5) Aerospace

With the rapid development of aviation and aerospace technology, the requirements for various components in aircraft and spacecraft are constantly increasing, which makes the application of PC in this field increasingly increasing. According to statistics, there are 2,500 polycarbonate parts used in one Boeing aircraft alone, and a single aircraft consumes about 2 tons of polycarbonate.

(6) Electronic and electrical appliances

PC material has the characteristics of good electrical insulation and is used in the field of electronic appliances. Common ones include: mobile phone casings, notebook casings, and charger casings.

(7) Optical lenses

At present, optical lenses are mainly made of acrylic, with simple design, short plastic molding time, low cost, lightweight and high light transmittance.

(8) Food contact

The heat-resistant temperature range of PC material is – methylboric acid 45℃-135℃. Beyond this temperature range, PC materials will age and deteriorate and lose their inherent properties. Bisphenol A is generally not released within the scope of daily food contact.

There are actually many uses for PCs, you can explore them one by one!

Multiple uses of polycarbonateAdvantages of polycarbonate

(1) Its impact strength is the highest among all engineering plastics, higher than polyoxymethylene, almost 3 to 5 times that of polyamide, and similar to phenolic resin and polyester resin reinforced with glass fiber.

(2) It has high mechanical strength, its tensile and flexural strength are similar to polyoxymethylene and polyamide, and its elongation at break reaches 90% (25 degrees Celsius). Moreover, the strength is improved at low temperatures and does not decrease much at high temperatures.

(3) High heat resistance and cold resistance, can be used for a long time in the temperature range of +130~-100 degrees Celsius. It has no obvious melting point, its melting temperature is generally between 220 and 230 degrees Celsius, and its decomposition temperature is generally above 300 degrees Celsius. The heat distortion temperature of lithium carbonate is 130~140 degrees Celsius at 18.5 kg/cm2, which is higher than polyoxymethylene and only lower than polysulfone and polyphenylene ether. The embrittlement temperature is below minus 100 degrees Celsius.

(4) The transparency is very good. The light transmittance of the film can reach 89%, second only to organic glass, and it can also be colored.

(5) The product is non-toxic, tasteless and odorless.

(6) The oil resistance is very good. The weight of the sample does not change basically after being soaked in gasoline for three months.

(7) can be soluble in chlorane, with a solubility of 0.31 g/ml in dichloromethane, 0.1 g/ml in chloroform, and 0.33 g/ml in tetrachloromethane. In chlorinated benzene, it is 0.06 g/ml. Solvents such as benzene, acetone, ether, and ethyl acetate can swell but not dissolve polycarbonate.

(8) The water absorption is very small. When the relative humidity is 50%, the maximum moisture absorption is 0.16%. If soaked in water at 23 degrees Celsius for a week, the water absorption rate will be 0.4%. If soaked in boiling water for a week, the water absorption rate will be 0.58%. .

(9) The creep value is the smallest among various plastic materials. For a 13 mm cube at 70 degrees Celsius and a load of 1,800 kg, the volume change is only 0.282% in 24 hours.

(10) Stable electrical properties.

(11) It has good weather resistance, and the performance of the product will not change significantly after being left outdoors for three years.

(12) It is self-extinguishing.
