Advantages and characteristics of polyurethane bismuth zinc catalyst

The following are the advantages of polyurethane catalyst:

In order to adjust the gel properties or meet the requirements of some customers to replace mercury catalysts, we developed the bimetallic bismuth-zinc composite product BiCAT® 8. Bismuth provides the gel speed required for curing, generating polyurethane with high selectivity and high rate, and zinc accelerates the later stage of the reaction and promotes cross-linking.

Users can adjust the gel properties of polyurethane rubber by changing the concentrations of these two metals in the system. For example, by adding BiCAT®Z (19% zinc) or BiCAT®3228 (22% zinc) to increase the zinc in the system, extend the operating time in the kettle during the induction period, and promote post-curing.

Due to the different reaction systems of users, the optimal bismuth-zinc ratio is also different. Keep the amount of bismuth unchanged, conduct experiments by adding different amounts of zinc, control the ratio of bismuth to zinc between 1:1 and 1:5, and find the most suitable bismuth to zinc ratio for your system.

Environmentally friendly organic bismuth, Organozincand organic zirconium as well as composite metal catalysts can be cured at room temperature or heated. They are an alternative to toxic substances in the production of foam plastics, coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomer products in the polyurethane industry today.
