Detection of Meropenem Sodium Carbonate_Industrial Additives

Detection background and overview of meropenem sodium carbonate

Meropenem is a synthetic broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. Meropenem easily penetrates the cell wall of most Gram-positive and -negative bacteria and reaches its target penicillin-binding protein (PBPS). By inhibiting Synthesis of bacterial cell walls produces antimicrobial effects. In addition to metallo-β-lactamases, meropenem has a strong hydrolytic effect on most β-lactamases (including penicillinase and cephalosporinase produced by Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria) stability. In vitro experiments have shown that the combination of meropenem and aminoglycoside antibiotics can produce a synergistic effect on some Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates.

Due to the low solubility of meropenem in water, sodium carbonate is usually added to the preparation as a co-solvent. Meropenem for injection can be used to treat pneumonia (including nosocomial pneumonia), urinary tract infections, gynecological infections (such as endometritis and pelvic inflammatory disease), skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, sepsis and other inflammations. However, formyl phenylboronic acid is not stable. Since meropenem has poor stability in solution, it is of practical significance to provide a stable meropenem powder for injection.

Detection of meropenem sodium carbonate

Some studies have established an atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for the determination of sodium carbonate in meropenem for injection. A sodium hollow cathode lamp is used as the light source, an air-acetylene flame atomizer is used, and the lanthanum carbonate analysis line is 330.3nm. Using sodium chloride as the reference substance, the linear relationship was good when the sodium chloride concentration was 56 to 420 μg/ml, and the detection limit was 3.2 μg/ml. The average recovery of sodium carbonate was 101.5% with an RSD of 2.6%.
