The author learned from the China Machinery Industry Federation on the 14th that the growth rate of the main economic indicators of my country’s machinery industry in 2016 generally rebounded, exceeding expectations at the beginning of last year. Among them, main business income increased by 7.44% year-on-year, an increase of 4.12 percentage points over the same period last year. The total profit achieved was 1.68 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.54%.

The China Machinery Industry Federation held the 2016 Machinery Industry Economic Operation Information Conference in Beijing on the 14th. Cai Weici, deputy director of the Expert Committee of the China Machinery Industry Federation, said that the structural adjustment of the machinery industry has shown results. Sales of construction machinery products bottomed out and automobile production and sales grew rapidly. In addition, sales of products related to environmental protection, new energy, and intelligent manufacturing have grown rapidly. Last year, special equipment for environmental pollution prevention and control increased by 30.3% year-on-year, and the production and sales of new energy vehicles increased by 51.7% and 53% year-on-year respectively.

It is worth mentioning that the innovation capabilities of the machinery industry have improved and intelligent manufacturing has begun to take off. Taking industrial robots as an example, my country has become the world’s largest consumer market for industrial robots for three consecutive years. Among them, in areas with harsh working conditions such as casting, the use of industrial robots has increased rapidly.

However, the investment growth rate of my country’s machinery industry fell back last year, the ordering situation was unstable, and the total foreign trade import and export volume continued to decline, which also reflects the pressure on industry operations and the urgency to promote supply-side structural reform.

The China Machinery Industry Federation predicts that with the advancement of industrial structural adjustment, the machinery industry will maintain steady growth in 2017.
