Can be used in (1) oil phase (alkyl siloxane), (2) water phase (PEG
/PPG dimethicone) or (3) silicone phase (dimethicone) with an appropriately selected organofunctional silicone added. Reasons for addition need to be evaluated. Adding silicone to the oil phase improves wetting and spreading, thereby changing buffering and absorption times. Adding silicone that is soluble in the water phase will reduce the surface tension of the water phase and change the aesthetics. Finally, adding silicone-soluble materials other than dimethicone provides water resistance, barrier properties, and changes skin feel to provide a dry powdery feel. All in all, there are many possibilities.
