What effect does pigment content have on color paste stability?

Pigment is the core component of color paste. During the production process of color paste, the quality of pigment dispersion affects the storage stability of color paste. The pigment content in the water-based color paste should be as high as possible, so that the amount of color paste added when matching is as small as possible to achieve the required coloring and hiding power, and to minimize the negative impact of the color paste on the performance of the coating product.

The increase in pigment concentration in the color paste increases the viscosity of the system, thereby reducing the settling speed of the pigment particles and weakening the flocculation tendency of the particles. Therefore, increasing the amount of pigment is beneficial to the storage stability of the color paste. However, if the amount of pigment is too high, the distance between the pigment particles in the color paste is reduced, and the stabilizing effect of the dispersant is difficult to resist the attraction between particles, causing the pigment to flocculate. The particles become larger, the settling speed becomes larger, and the system stratifies. Therefore, increasing the amount of pigment within a certain range is beneficial to improving the dispersion stability of the system. Each brand of color paste has its own formula and pigment procurement. The pigment content in the color paste can only be determined based on its own characteristics and actual conditions.
