Carbon black (also called carbon black) is a colloidal particle similar to a sphere formed by incomplete combustion or thermal cracking of hydrocarbon compounds (liquid or gaseous). It exists in the form of aggregates and appears as pure black powder or granular form. The particle size, structure and surface activity of products vary greatly depending on raw materials, manufacturing methods and production processes. The main component of carbon black is carbon, and also contains trace amounts of hydrogen, oxygen, ash and moisture.
What are the functions of carbon black?
Mainly used as reinforcing agent and filler for rubber, its consumption is about half of rubber consumption. Rubber carbon black accounts for 94% of the total carbon black. About 60% of this is used in tire manufacturing. In addition, it is also used as a colorant for inks, coatings and plastics, and as a UV-shielding agent for plastic products. It is also an important additive in many other products, such as electrodes, dry batteries, resistors, explosives, cosmetics and polishing pastes. Rubber carbon black is used in the tire industry, rubber seals, shock-absorbing parts, etc. A certain amount of rubber carbon black can be used to reinforce and fill rubber products to improve the performance of rubber products.
Use of rubber carbon black
In the rubber industry, in order to express the reinforcing effect of carbon black on rubber and its application parts on tires, it is also customary to divide carbon black into hard carbon black and hard carbon black. There are two categories of soft carbon black. The former has a good reinforcing effect on rubber, while the latter has poor reinforcing effect and has a filling effect to a large extent. Most of the oil furnace carbon black (super wear-resistant furnace black, medium-super wear-resistant furnace black, high wear-resistant furnace black, fine particle carbon black) belongs to hard carbon black; a small part of oil furnace carbon black (quick-pressed furnace carbon Black, general carbon black, semi-reinforced furnace black), gas furnace black and heated carbon black are soft carbon blacks. Rubber carbon black is generally Cabot N330, N774, N550, N220 carbon black and Orion N990, N550, N330 carbon black of various brands starting with N.
Cabot N330 carbon black:Cabot N330 carbon black is a highly wear-resistant furnace black that is widely used. The wear resistance of this product is slightly worse than the medium and super wear-resistant series carbon black, but better than channel carbon black. This product is used in tire treads, cord rubber, sidewalls and various rubber industrial products. This product is a kind of carbon black with good reinforcing properties, which can give the rubber material good tensile properties, tear resistance, wear resistance and elasticity. The rolling loss of passenger tires using this product is only greater than that of N351 in the N300 series, which is smaller than other varieties. It has good dispersion and extrusion properties in the rubber compound and is suitable for various synthetic rubbers and natural rubbers.
Cabot N774 Carbon Black:Dispersion of Cabot Semi-Reinforced Carbon Black N774 in Natural Rubber and Synthetic Rubber Very good and easy to mix even at high carbon black levels. Low-heat, low-viscosity raw rubber, due to its lower surface area and low structure, can increase the concentration of many rubber products, which can help reduce the expansion of harmful media, reduce permeability and material costs.
Cabot N550 Carbon Black:Cabot Rubber Carbon Black N550 is suitable for natural rubber and various synthetic rubbers and is easy to disperse. It can give the rubber material high stiffness, fast extrusion speed, small mouth expansion, and smooth extrusion surface. Vulcanized rubber has good high-temperature performance and thermal conductivity, as well as better reinforcing properties, elasticity and recovery. Mainly used in rubber for tire cords, sidewalls, inner tubes and extruded and calendered products.
Cabot N220 Carbon Black: It is a widely used highly reinforced furnace carbon black. Cabot carbon black N220 has a high structure and its wear resistance is between super wear-resistant carbon black and high wear-resistant carbon black. It is suitable for all kinds of rubber, and its wear resistance is 10%-20% higher than that of N330. It can give the rubber particles high tensile strength and tear resistance, and has a certain degree of conductivity. Mainly used for tread rubber of truck tires, passenger tires, and rubber products that require high strength and high wear resistance.
Orion N990 Carbon Black: Orion CORAX N990 thermal carbon black is suitable for high filling and enhanced rubber properties. Due to the low surface area and low structure of CORAX N990, interaction with polymers is minimal. N990 is very easy to disperse and can be highly filled. N990 has three main advantages in rubber products: smooth extrusion, low gas penetration, and low compression and continuous deformation. Therefore, the main uses of CORAX N990 carbon black (including honeycomb rubber products): tubular materials, hoses, and sealing strips.
Orion Carbon Black N550: Orion Carbon Black N550 is suitable for natural rubber and various synthetic rubbers. It is easy to disperse and can give the rubber a higher High stiffness, fast extrusion speed, small mouth expansion, and smooth extrusion surface. High temperature resistance of vulcanized rubberIt has good thermal conductivity, reinforcing properties, elasticity and recovery properties. Mainly used in rubber for tire cords, sidewalls, inner tubes and extruded and calendered products.
Orion Black N330: Orion Black N330 is a carbon black with good reinforcing properties, which can give the colloidal particles better Strong tensile properties, tear resistance, abrasion resistance and elasticity. Mainly used in tire treads, cord rubber, sidewalls and various rubber industrial products.
Use of carbon black
Carbon black is usually divided into pigment carbon black, rubber carbon black, reinforcing carbon black, insulating carbon black, spray carbon black, colored carbon black, Metallurgical carbon black, conductive carbon black and special carbon black can be widely used in rubber, ink, coatings, paints, batteries, electronic materials and other industries. Among them, rubber carbon black, pigment carbon black, and conductive carbon black are the most commonly used.
