INCI: PPG-3 Benzyl Myristate – Cosmetic silicone oil manufacturer

Croda’s presentation proposed alternatives to silicones for a wide range of uses. Crodamol STS (INCI: PPG-3 Benzyl Myristate) is a readily biodegradable emollient.

Its molecular structure lends itself to the benefits of alkoxylation, which improves dispersion. Methyl branching promotes fluidity; ether bonds increase polarity and improve compatibility with pigments; and the benzyl moiety is more compatible with sunscreen, sterols, and fragrances.

Berg + Schmidt’s BergaCare FG Olive is a blend of hydrogenated ethylhexyl oleate and hydrogenated unsaponifiable olive oil as a new 100% olive-based silicone alternative. It is said to mimic the feel of cyclopentasiloxane and can be used as an emollient in skin and hair care formulations.

It is compatible with all common cosmetic ingredients and is an ideal silicone-free emollient without affecting texture.
Silicone derivatives are often used in cosmetic formulations to achieve an alluring texture and light skin feel. As demand for more natural and sustainable cosmetics continues to grow, alternative solutions should offer silicone-like textures with a smaller environmental impact.

Symrise claims to have met these requirements using SymMollient PDCC (INCI: propylene glycol dioctanoate/caprate) and SymMollient S green (INCI: octadecyl nonanoate). They can be combined to mimic the sensory properties of complex silicone derivatives.

Symrise tested this concept through sensory evaluation by a trained expert panel, with the formulation using different silicone derivatives replaced with a combination of SymMollient S green and SymMollient PDCC, but there was no significant difference in sensory properties.
